Heli - Adventures:
An exciting new way to enjoy Hong Kong's beautiful countryside
These imaginative excursions combine hikes through some of the most spectacular scenery in Hong Kong with helicopter tours over the same area.
We currently offer a choice of two expeditions:
Enchanting Escape
We
start the day with a short ferry ride to Ko Lau Wan, a remote-fishing
village jutting out on a rocky peninsula.
Our hike goes through the village passing a Taoist cemetery. We begin to climb up and along a grassy trail offering spectacular coastal and mountainous views as we head towards Sharp Peak, 468m.
If your group is up for the challenge, we can climb to the top to enjoy a view that isn't on the postcards. We then drop down to one of the 5 beaches of Tai Long Wan for an optional swim and lunch at Ham Tin village.
To complete a great day out, a Heliservices twin-engine Squirrel helicopter will take you for a breathtaking ride back to the Central Heliport.
Itinerary
1 hour 45 min road travel & ferry; 3 to 4 + hours hiking; 1-hour lunch; heli ride back to Central.
- Pick up at Heliservices Central Heliport at 9.00am.
- 45-minute drive to Sai Kung Country Park.
- 10-minute break at the Country Park Visitors Centre. This gives you an idea of the area and orientation in relation to the rest of Hong Kong.
- 10 minute ride to the ferry pier.
- 20-minute ferry ride to start of hike.
- 10 minute look around Ko Lau Wan fishing village.
- 1 ½ hour hike on moderate terrain, along contour and ridge trails to base of Sharp Peak, 468m.
- 1-hour option to go to the top and take in stunning views in all directions including Mainland China.
- 1-hour descent, not an option, on rough terrain— what goes up must come down. Sorry, no helipad up there.
- 10 minute cool off and swim in the clear waters of Tai Long Wan.
- 1 hour lunch break at Ham Tin village. Good Chinese food but they also have sandwiches.
- 1/2 hour explore on Ham Tin beach or more hiking over to Sai Wan village, the fifth beach in the bay.
- Scenic helicopter flight back to the Central Heliport.
Kayak & Coral
Yes, Hong Kong has coral—52 species to be exact.
Paddle, snorkel and relax around the new marine park at Hoi Ha.
This protected 260-hectare site offers sheltered bays with clear shallow waters that are ideal for viewing 39 of Hong Kong's 50 species of coral. This is a fantastic way to get outdoors and away from the crowds even in the heat.
We kayak across to Tap Mun Island. After taking in a little local culture at the ornate Tin Hau temple, we enjoy a seafood lunch at Loi's restaurant.
Our walk winds through the village, continuing along to Tap Mun New Fishermen's village. Stepping lightly through a Taoist cemetery, along a coastal trail up to a lookout point where there are stunning views of Mirs Bay, China and Sharp Peak.
Next, back onto the water for our return journey stopping at a secluded beach for a well-earned swim. Ten more minutes of paddling will get us back to Hoi Ha beach.
We then make our way to the helipad where you will be met by a Heliservices twin-engine Squirrel helicopter. After being safely strapped in you will be whisked away over the green hills and blue waters giving you a very different and fantastic perspective of the "otherside of Hong Kong" enroute to Central Heliport.
Itinerary
1-hour travel; 2 1/2-hour kayak and swim; 1-hour lunch; 40 minute walk; heli ride back to Central.
- Pick up at Heliservices Central Heliport at 9.00am.
- 45 minute drive to Sai Kung's Country & Marine Park.
- 15 minute kayak preparation and briefing.
- 45 to 60-minute paddle around coastline; snorkel; swim and then on out to Tap Mun Island.
- 1 hour for seafood lunch.
- 40 minute walk viewing interesting points of the island.
- 60-minute paddle back to Hoi Ha village via secluded beach for swim.
- 30-minute pack up, wash up, and change.
- 5 minute drive to helipad.
- Helicopter flight to the Central Heliport.
