"Angelina Jolie" drops in at Heliservices

Landing at Central Heliport

Earlier this year Heliservices' Twin Squirrel helicopter and pilots were booked by Paramount Pictures for 10 days to assist in the filming of aerial scenes for Angelina Jolie's latest movie Tombraider II.

A sphere-shaped gyro stabilized Spacecam camera was brought in from Hollywood and mounted on the nose of the helicopter. All functions of the camera are carried out remotely by the operator sitting in the back of the helicopter. Day and night scenes were filmed around Hong Kong Harbour and over the city and Kowloon.

Most spectacular of these were the shots of "Angelina" parachuting from the top of the International Finance Centre building and "landing" on a ship in the harbour. Many takes of the parachuting scenes were filmed including a number of shots of the heroine jumping from a helicopter 5000 feet above the harbour and touching down at Heliservices helipad. Much to the disappointment of Heliservices staff members "Angelina" turned out to be a Swedish stunt man.

Our photo gallery includes a picture of the Spacecam and a larger version of the picture at the left.
